Tiger Woods delivered the news that we were all expecting tonight... he will not be playing in the 2017 Masters. Here is the statement he put out tonight:
“Unfortunately, I won’t be competing in this year’s Masters. I did about everything I could to play, but my back rehabilitation didn’t allow me the time to get tournament ready. I’m especially upset because it’s a special anniversary for me that’s filled with a lot of great memories. I can’t believe it’s been 20 years since I won my first green jacket. “I have no timetable for my return, but I will continue my diligent effort to recover, and want to get back out there as soon as possible. “I’d like to pass along my regrets to Billy Payne, the Augusta National membership, staff, volunteers and patrons, that I won’t be there. I will be at the Champions Dinner and I look forward to seeing a lot of old friends. “Augusta National has been a very important place to me and my family for over 20 years, and while I’m disappointed, it will be good to be back there Tuesday.”
Well, I guess this is better than seeing a 40 year old man hack it a round on Augusta's tough greens. Let's be honest, Tiger is a shell of his former self and would likely miss the cut or just call it an early week with a back flare up if he did play. The man I think is also to much of a different person, he's traded his clutch gene in for a clutch as he has basically become Mr. Mom. Which is in no way a knock on him, in fact it is nice to see how much he cares for his kids. While it is great to see him become a good father, I don't think this new Tiger can be competitive. To be honest it sucks, he should still be out there in the top-ten every week, and giving these young guys a run for their money. Maybe will see that Victory Red polo again, but at this point I wonder if he will ever be able to hit a commemorative starting tee shot.
Also it would be nice if he didn't leave these statements until late Friday.
