Austin Country Club located alongside the mighty Colorado River is one of the oldest golf clubs in Texas founded all the way back in 1899. The current course plays 7,086 yards and is a Pete Dye design. Another interesting fact about ACC is that it was the home base for the legendary Harvey Penick, a great author if you have never read him. The Golf Course Superintendent is Bobby Stringer a alumnus of Texas A&M.
This week is different from almost every other stop on tour a welcome change up, and is very fitting for March. This week is a match play event which not only gives us a extra round golf today, but it also gives us a bracket to fill out. Which also explains for all of you who where wondering why a golf blog was talking so much about March Madness it was just a warm up for this weeks bracket which you can see at the bottom. Anyway so the event starts with 16-pods of four players playing round robin style, and the best record from each advances to the sweet sixteen which is played Saturday.
Bob's winner is Jason Day at +1,400. This will be interesting as Jason Day won last year over Oosthuizen 5&4.
Im going with Jordan Spieth at +900. Some explanation to my bracket McGrit in my finals is kinda a wildcard but he's so gritty its in his name. Dustin Johnson versus Zach Johnson will be fun to watch, but it would be even better if the loser had to change his name like Jack Lame in Anchorman 2. Leishman is hot and pumped now that he has a invitation to the Masters and I think that will transfer to success at Austin. I'll give more analysis of this bracket after the first round.
